Haegeum is an instrument that makes its sounds by rubbing the strings with a bow. Haegeum has two strings only. This instrument used to play during the Goryeo Dynasty in Dangak. It can make a sound of happy, angry, enjoyment, and nature sounds or everything into sounds.

Haegeum has its soundbox, which is made either with excavate the root of a thick bamboo tree or carve the tree into a cylinder shape. However, mostly use the soundbox made of root of bamboo. This is because it has less grain, does not usually get split and hard that help Haegeum to have better sound. In the Haegeum’s soundbox, make a hole and stick the Ibjuk made of bamboo with dense joints and then pull two strings to the end of the Ibjuk and tie it. Ibjuk is usually thick inside and thin outside but this has a shape of slightly bent on end and use two tightening thread. The strings are usually used silk thread, use bamboo for a bow.

Haegeum usually plays while sitting down, but before it was also played while walking. Put strings of the bow between inner and outer strings and rub it. Using the left hand, pull the string tightly or loosen the strings to change the sounds. However, unlike other string instruments, it does not have an exact location where to put their fingers on the string that makes it hard to find its notes.
